Printed Vinyl as Part of the Exhibition at the National Gallery Prague

The exhibition of the iconic photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková is not only a visual testimony of the past half-century but also an immersive space that draws visitors into her life story. A central feature of the exhibition design is a unique printed vinyl installation that literally guides visitors step by step through the exhibition. Based on the vision of the exhibition’s architects, we produced a 55-meter-long custom-printed vinyl strip that seamlessly transitions from the floor to the walls, becoming an integral part of the exhibition’s visual storytelling.

Vinyl as an Artistic Element

This custom-printed flooring is more than just a practical material—it is an active component of the exhibition. The design interweaves fragments of Libuše Jarcovjáková’s self-portraits, extending from the floor onto the walls, leading visitors through the narrative of the exhibition. This uninterrupted visual band, symbolizing a metaphorical "welcome carpet," helps orient visitors toward the exhibition’s main themes. The pink light, which permeates the entire exhibition concept, combined with graphic applications on the vinyl, intensifies the emotional impact of the installation.

For the realization of this large-scale work, we collaborated with BOCA, a company with whom we have had excellent experience on previous projects. The precise installation in the complex space of the Veletržní Palace required extreme attention to detail, and thanks to the experienced team, a flawless result was achieved.

Technological Precision and Creative Approach

The execution of such a project demanded extraordinary precision—the exhibition spaces of the Veletržní Palace are not perfectly level, making it essential to adapt each part of the vinyl to the architectural specifics of the space. Thanks to the expertise of our installation technicians, we were able to carefully align every detail with the artistic vision of architect Anna Matoušková from the annaMAT studio and the graphic designers. The installation required perfect synergy between the curatorial team’s vision and the technical possibilities of large-format digital printing.

Large-Format Printing in the Service of Art

The vinyl material used comes from Beauflor, a manufacturer whose products provide an ideal base for custom digital printing. BOCA was responsible not only for the precise printing but also for the complex installation of this extensive "continuous element," which spans three exhibition rooms without interruption.

The Libuše Jarcovjáková exhibition is not just about photography—it is a spatial experience where art and architecture merge through innovative materials and a progressive approach to exhibition design. BOCA has demonstrated how printed vinyl can elevate the visual communication of an exhibition space to an entirely new level. We are honored to be part of such projects.
